Wow, I can hardly believe we made it through the first week of kindergarten! I’m sounding off about it over at 5 Minutes for Special Needs today if you want to hear more.
The hardest part of writing the post was figuring out how to show my excitement at the progress he has made. I finally found my answer at this great list of Commonly Misused Words in the English Language. Here is the part that answered my dilemma:
Yay vs. Yea vs. Yeah
Incorrect: “How do you vote, yay or nay?”
Correct: “How do you vote, yea or nay?”Yea is an archaic word that is rarely used any more. It rhymes with “nay,” and the only time you’d really want to use it is when you’re voting. Or when you want to say “yea verily” or something like that.
Yeah is that casual version of “yes” that we use all the time.
Yay is an exclamation of joy or excitement.
Phew! I’m glad that’s resolved. Now we can all go have a great holiday weekend!

Hi Trish-
I am Judd Corizan. I produce a new meme called Sunday Stealing. Its located at: http://sundaystealing.blogspot.com. Its a meme I am producing that originated on Bud Weisers WTIT Blog. I am now heading up the meme that you can play every Sunday. What we do is search for the best memes in the blogosphere and steal them. We always contact the blogs owner and fess up to the theft and give them a link.
It has been incredibly popular on Buds blog and Bud has always encouraged his readers to steal it as well. Sunday Stealing introduced the infamous CD Cover meme to hundreds of readers. And that is the best part. Every week the meme will always be different. Weve contacted since you have played Saturday 9, which is as hot a meme as there is on the internet. Naturally, we got permission from Samantha Winters (Crazy Sam) and she is excited about our meme and was thrilled to help. Weve exchanges links/ads!
We did a dry run on this past Sunday and will go live on this Sunday August 31st! We hope you join us. We hope youll join in! And if you havent played Saturday: 9 in a while, I promised Sam Id invite you play again at http://saturday9.blogspot.com.
Thanks-
Judd
Yay all round!!
I have always wondered about “yay vs…” as I am in a habit of using “yay!” I think I’ve mostly used it correctly, but it’s great to know. Glad to hear Michael is doing well. The examples you gave of his week are the exact type of thing that I fear my son will experience next week in his first week of school. You reminded me that yes every day something is bound to pop up, but it doesn’t have to be the end of the world, and it will teach us both!
I knew about yeah, but yea and yay have always thrown me – I’m so glad you posted this!
But what if I’m really excited about whatever’s being voted on? Can’t I vote “yay!” then?
Or maybe if I feel like horsing around, I’ll vote “neigh”…
Trish, you crack me up!
Hey, I posted a follow-up to the “Empathy and Autism” post in response to your comment, sorry it took so long but thought you might want to read it

Yay for good starts! (And I can’t believe the art teacher didn’t at least have them do a little coloring or something. Bah!)
Maya’s got her meet and greet tomorrow morning, and then she starts kg on Monday, and also joins her brother at his afternoon program the same day. We’ve got some big changes ahead this week…
Thanks for the lesson.
