I can hardly believe this day has come, but we have a potty-trained child.
This has been a very long process, although I am sure it could have gone faster if we were more disciplined or had followed more of an ABA approach. Honestly, though, we didn’t see any signs of readiness until partway through an intensive auditory and sensory integration program he did last spring/summer.
However we got there, we have reached our main goal and the Little Guy is very proud of himself for the accomplishment. After more than a week of him consistently initiating trips to the bathroom and not having a meltdown every time we suggested he visit the potty, his dad was at last convinced that he had earned the promised big prize.
So off they went yesterday to the big toy store and emerged victorious with figures of the entire Justice League!
For mom, the best parts are things like not having to convince a daycare to let him come there even though he is still in pull-ups or having your heart sink when the announcement comes for preschool VBS and it is limited to children who are potty-trained. And we won’t even talk about the horrible lady at the Hop ‘n Shop play area at the mall. Oh, yeah, and not having to change any more messy pull-ups!!
We still have to keep our eye on the clock and make sure he doesn’t wait too long, but I think that is pretty typical for newly-trained kids. Way to go, Little Guy!!

Woohoo! What a huge accomplishment for LG and what a relief for you
Yeah!!!
Yahoo for you!!! I guess we have been fortunate in that department. Though he was later than most kids his age, he was trained sooner than most of his classmates.
Good Carver quote too!
That is excellent news! You must be very proud!
Woohoo!! WTG Little Guy!!
Congrats!!!
I was nodding as I was reading your post about how it feels to have your child unpotty trained. I have had similar experiences. Congrats to you and LG!
That is wonderful news!! Such a relief, isn’t it?
I am interested in the auditory/sensory integration you mentioned. Is there a post about it on your blog? or would you mind explaining a little the auditory part?
(Thanks for the comment on my blog!)
We are very proud of him, thanks!
Julie, I will post more about the auditory integration therapy soon. It was very helpful for him in several ways.
Congratulations – what a great accomplishment for all of you!
It’s funny – we refer to our son as The Little Guy, too! I look forward to the day that our Little Guy can celebrate being potty trained just like your Little Guy!
Woo Hoo! Congrats to you and your son!!!
Thanks for visiting my blog. I am a few days behind. I have a new post up if you are interested!
Hi, this is Becki from BlogMommas.com. How did you do it? I am so lost. I don’t know what to do with my son. His doctor says that it may take a lot of time. Some days he wants to try, others he goes into full on melt down if I mention it. If you can (if you have time) would you email me and tell me what you did – or maybe a book or something that will help…We had success for a few days and today he is back and screaming like a banshee at the mention of the word “potty”
