
So today I had to call the phone company.
Why is the phone company the worst place to call on the phone?
I reluctantly picked up the phone and dialed. I was greeted by the friendly voice recognition system who wants nothing more than to help you and is convinced that she should be able to answer all of your questions, but she CAN’T because she is a MACHINE who hasn’t actually achieved self-awareness!!
After 10 minutes of this nonsense, I gave up and slammed down hung up the phone in disgust. Later, as I was getting ready to make another attempt, I remembered someone mentioning a website that had information on how to circumvent various companies’ phone systems and get to a real person who can (hopefully) help you. A brief search yielded gethuman.com. I quickly found my phone company using the alphabetized directory and followed the instructions of what to say after each prompt. Amazingly enough, I was connected to a human being after only two prompts!!
I would even venture to say that I was much nicer to the representative on the other end of the line because I hadn’t been made to feel completely powerless and defeated by their attempts to avoid speaking with me. ![]()
