Wow, I can hardly believe a new year is here already! And it is almost one year ago that I started blogging – so much has happened in such a short time that I can hardly take it all in. In the interest of reminiscing over the last few months, Looking Back and Moving Forward is my topic today at 5MFSN. I hope you’ll visit and also offer your suggestions for topics and issues to be discussed in the coming year.
And to start off the new year on the right foot, I am having my first giveaway! It is in honor of Root & Sprout, which many of you know I have been a fan of since its inception. Not only is it a great site filled with useful articles designed to help your relationship with your children grow and flourish, but there is also a social community called Grow Together where members can connect with each other and pursue opportunities to write for R&S.
How do I enter?
To enter the giveaway, simply visit Root & Sprout, take a look around and leave me a comment here naming one article you read and what you liked about it. You can leave multiple comments if you find more than one article you like; just make sure each comment gives the name of the article and what you found helpful or interesting.
You can also earn extra entries by writing a post about this giveaway (leave me a comment with the link to your post) and by joining Grow Together (leave me a comment with the link to your GT page). Each qualifying comment will be entered in the random drawing for the giveaway. Entries will be accepted through Friday, January 9th, and the winner will be drawn and announced on Saturday, January 10th. This giveaway is open to US mailing addresses only.
What do I win?
Well, I’m glad you asked; the winner will be receiving three volumes of the Bounce DVDs from Spectrum Connections.
Bounce is a series of developmental DVDs that uses music as a teaching tool. The host draws on her music therapy background to encourage cognitive and social learning for young children or children with special needs. The titles in this giveaway are Let’s Talk!, Routines!, and Let’s Go!
You can also visit Three Weddings for more Root & Sprout giveaways. Thanks to Debbie Yost for this great idea!

Hi, Trish,
I visited R&S for the first time yesterday – from Maddy’s site. I’ll have to go back to explore more.
Your giveaway dvds are way cooler than the ones I am offering on my site.
Here’s to another great year blogging!
Trish, thank you so much for your continued support of both Root & Sprout and Grow Together. Having you in my corner, rooting for me, really means a lot. Best wishes for 2009!

I just visited and read a great article under the Wildflowers tab on peer presentations related to special needs kids. What a great idea to file away for the future! I loved her ideas of providing activities to the other children to simulate your child’s challenges – like having them talk with marshmallows in their mouth to simulate a speech problem. Thanks for the giveaway oppoprtunity, Trish!

I liked Teaching Your Child To Persevere, it is nice to know other parents resort to the “bribery” tool as well
As a parent, I so often hear, “I can’t do it!” Preschool taught us a good phrase, “I’m a can-do kid!”

Hi, I came over from 5MFSN. I have heard good things about the BOUNCE DVD’s.
The article that caught my eye was “A Case For Dress-Up Play.” I have an NT 2-year old who loves to dress up and pretend. She just got some new costumes for Christmas. It’s a new experience for me b/c her older sister with ASD seems to have no interest in this. I am hopeful that my 2 year old will be a great model of pretend play for her big sister.
Thanks a lot for the giveaway opportunity!

Thanks for posting the reminder on Twitter! I was going to enter the other night, but it was late, so I bookmarked it and it got lost among all my other bookmarks. I read the article about Learning to Manage Time. Goodness, how I need to be reminded of that. I’ve been working on it and things go SO much more smoothly and I’m pulling out of my burn out because of it. I think I need to learn this for myself before I can preach it to anyone else!!
