What Movies Do You Recommend?

I need to beef up our Netflix queue, but I don’t want to end up watching a bunch of crap, so I am asking for your recommendations on what movies to request.

Please leave a comment and give me some ideas. I primarily like romantic comedies, but not too raunchy, and good drama or action without too much violence. I absolutely do not like anything with horror.

I am also open to kids and family flicks that aren’t painful for adults to sit through, i.e. not The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl!

I don’t know if that’s enough to go on, but I would love to hear what films you always recommend to people.

Pictures of decorating the tree seems to be the theme for today (and a lovely theme it is!), so I’ll share ours as well. I am just so happy that it is done! It didn’t seem to take as long this year, possibly because Michael is so much more helpful now. :)

Now that Thanksgiving has passed, it’s more than time to be finishing up Christmas presents. Especially since my husband’s family has decided to celebrate on the weekend before Christmas! (I’m totally fine with those plans, if any of you are reading, by the way. It just means I have to get myself organized!)

Anyway, 5 Minutes for Mom is having a fantastic bunch of giveaways, 30 in all. You can enter through Friday, December 4th at 12pm EST, and they will be announcing the winners on December 5th, so everything can be shipped out in time for Christmas.

As part of their Christmas celebration, 5MFM is also sponsoring Under the Tree 2009, where you can nominate a deserving family in need to win some of the same prizes being offered in the giveaways. What a wonderful opportunity to see someone blessed!

Ramblings About a Pretty Good Day

by Trish on October 25, 2009 · View Comments

in Fun Stuff

Other than going to church last night, we totally crashed yesterday. So I was happy that I had a pretty productive day today – I am on track to finishing 4 loads of laundry, and I have the bingo cards for Friday’s school party over halfway done. I think they are going to be cute; I’ll post a picture of one once they are done.

I am actually looking forward to the party now that the homeroom parent helped me with what we should do. Plus, we are going in early to help the kids get their costumes on for the school parade. I love that I was scheduled for the first party of the year, so I didn’t have to worry about any duplicating anything that had been done before! (Okay, I know I am overanalyzing again, but at least I put myself out there knowing that it would be stressful but would make Michael happy.)

Bob took Michael out while he ran errands this afternoon, and they not only returned my books to the library for me, but they also picked up Michael’s Halloween costume! He had wanted to be Spiderman, but came home with a completely different costume instead that’s not even a superhero. I’m leave you in suspense on that one for a couple of days as well. :)

All this productivity is not to say that I didn’t goof off today. A couple of days ago, I heard about the Fancast website on 5 Minutes for Mom. They have full length episodes of various TV shows available online, so I just had to check it out.)

To my surprise, I was able to find The Next Iron Chef and catch up on the episodes I have missed due to The Amazing Race going late because of football. It figures, the only two shows I make a point to watch are scheduled back to back. So now I am all caught up on that , and it looks like both shows are on schedule for tonight. (I know, this is just so NOT important in the grand scheme of life.)

Well, I’m off to put the last load in the dryer. Hope everyone has a great night!

Give Me Five Monday

Give Me 5 Monday

This week’s topic: Give Me Five of your favorite drinks.

This is definitely not a very healthy list, but it does say “favorites” and, after all, if you aren’t honest on your own blog, what’s the point? :)

  1. Mountain Dew
  2. Coke
  3. Vitamin Water – lemonade or grape
  4. Starbucks’ Caramel Apple Cider
  5. An occasional chocolate milk or hot chocolate

I will drink plain water, but only if it’s VERY cold or I am VERY thirsty. I guess I need to work on that. I’m a bit convicted now about my choices and am sure I would feel better if I increased my water intake and decreased the amount of sugar that’s going into my body!

So now that I’ve confessed my bad habits, what’s your favorite thing to drink?

Something to Make You Smile (And Sing)

by Trish on September 19, 2009 · View Comments

I have been a bit downhearted about some things lately, mostly related to the recurring delays on the part of the school to meet with me, including the most recent request to make our upcoming meeting 15 minutes long, since we are “just discussing the incident” that occurred.

I’m sorry, but I think we need a few more minutes than that to cover how to make sure no one picks up my son and carries him somewhere during school, and what exactly is going to happen if there are difficult situations in the future.

On a good note, I attended an autism fair today and was able to share the ASD HOPE info with a bunch of people and sell some of our autism-related merchandise to replenish the coffers a bit.

Anyway, a friend of mine shared this on her blog, and it made me smile, so I’m passing it on to you. The Sound of Music is one of my all-time favorite movies, and I’m glad so many people feel it is worth sharing with the world!!

If you can’t see the video to play it, here’s the link to see it: Central Station Antwerp (Belgium).

Enjoy!

Give Me Five Monday

Give Me 5 Monday

Thanks to Super Mommy for introducing me to this fun meme created and hosted by BeccaGirl.

So, what’s “Give Me Five Monday”? Well, here’s BeccaGirl’s description:

The ‘Give Me Five’ Monday meme is designed to share fun information with each other in a simple short list! Here’s how it works. Each week, I will put out a random topic from my list of topics and you share 5 answers of your choice on the given topic and link back here! You can add photos, links or stories or just a simple list of your own of 5 things that relate to the topic as it pertains to you and your life experiences. It doesn’t have to be in any order of importance unless otherwise specified.

This week’s topic: Give Me five of your favorite ways to be crafty or creative.

Well, I don’t usually consider myself to be very crafty or creative, but I’ll give it a shot.

  1. Stamping – I really like rubber stamping, especially making cards. You can totally copy off other people’s ideas and just tweak them to make them your own. People love getting something handmade, and they have no idea whether yours is as good as the original inspiration. Also, if you mess up, you’re only out a couple of sheets of paper!
  2. Writing – I love the feeling of having written something that I think people will want to read, whether it’s a serious reflection on something or a funny thing that happened. Even at work, I have a sense of pride in the training documentation I have put together (although there’s not too much of that going on with the lessened hiring these days!)
  3. Blogging – This may seem similar to number 2, but I do enjoy the fun of creating a blog and choosing a layout or updating the way it works to be more functional or accessible. I do have trouble with the design aspects of it, which is why my color palette is so plain at the moment, but I am hoping the inspiration will strike me at some point and I can bring it all together.
  4. Cross Stitching – This one is a bit of a stretch since I haven’t done it in a long time. I liked it because I could create something pretty using my inclination towards specific rules and order. As long as I followed the pattern and counted everything correctly, it would come out right. I don’t tend to do well with free form expression.
  5. Drawing for my son – I’m listing this one because even though I don’t consider myself good at art, I have had to go outside my comfort zone to draw many likenesses of super heroes and other items my son wanted. I do feel proud of myself for doing it just to please him and engage with him and have even gotten one or two compliments from my husband (who is very artistic).

I know a lot of you much more crafty and creative than I am, so tell me what your top ways to express it are. Also, visit BeccA’s Buzz to read more or join in.
